Helpful tips for your MAACM visit
Pencils only: Sketching and taking notes is always acceptable at MAACM, however, to protect the art from damaging permanent marks, only pencils are allowed in the galleries.
No food or drink: Spilled drinks, food remnants, and sticky gum all pose threats to the works of art on display and also attract pests that can damage the art and cause health risks to our visitors. Visit the Museum’s Arts Café before or after your time in the galleries.
Stay an arm’s length away: A good rule of thumb when looking at works of art is to maintain distance between you and the art (about an arm’s length). Some people find it helpful to put their hands in their pockets or behind their backs to help them remember.
No touching the art: Our job as a museum is to ensure these objects are around for future generations to enjoy. The oil and dirt on our hands will damage the works over time, so it is important to never touch a work of art in the Museum.
Document your trip: Taking photos in the Museum is something we encourage! Please be mindful that flash photography is prohibited, as the light from the flash will damage the works of art. The Museum works hard to control the light levels in the galleries to ensure the art is safe at all times.
No weapons allowed: There are no weapons of any kind permitted on Museum property. Each visitor will be wanded upon entry and have their bags checked for weapons.
Bags: Oversized bags and backpacks are not permitted in the Museum. Please leave these items in your vehicle, as there is no place to store them.
Strollers: Strollers are not permitted in the galleries, so please leave them in your vehicle.
Service Animals: Service animals, defined by the ADA 2010 as an animal that is individually trained to perform tasks or to do work for the benefit of a person with a disability, are permitted in the museum so long as the animal is harnessed, leashed, or tethered at all times. MAACM does not allow emotional support animals (ESA) on site. Emotional Support Animals (or Comfort Animals), often used as part of a medical treatment plan as therapy animals, are not considered service animals under the ADA.
Wheelchairs: Available for free at the Admissions Desk on a first come, first serve basis. Museum visitors requesting the use of a wheelchair will be asked to provide a valid State Issued ID as a deposit.
